Abstract

Breast cancer is a growing public health concern, with its incidence steadily increasing each year, including in East Lombok. Reported cases rose from 2,910 in 2019 to 4,685 in 2020, highlighting the urgency of preventive efforts. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of nutrition education delivered through Instagram Reels in enhancing knowledge and reducing fast food consumption among adolescents. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group and pre-test–post-test assessments was used. The sample consisted of 70 11th-grade science students at SMAN 3 Selong, divided equally into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received educational content emphasizing the Four Pillars of Balanced Nutrition through short-form videos on Instagram Reels. Post-intervention results indicated a significant improvement in nutritional knowledge and a reduction in junk food intake among participants in the intervention group compared to the control group. The statistical analysis yielded a two-tailed asymptotic significance value of 0.00 and a p-value of less than 0.05, confirming the effectiveness of the intervention. These findings demonstrate that digital platforms, particularly Instagram Reels, can serve as effective tools for health education among adolescents. The combination of concise content, engaging visuals, and social media accessibility contributed to positive behavioral outcomes. This method offers a promising approach to supporting cancer prevention efforts by promoting healthier lifestyle habits through youth-oriented media. Future programs are encouraged to optimize visual quality and segment content into digestible formats to maximize comprehension and long-term impact
