Poor sleep after stroke may interfere with recovery and quality of life. This study examined factors associated with sleep quality among stroke patients. A cross-sectional secondary analysis used 165 records randomly selected from 197 complete responses in a source dataset of 200 respondents. Sleep quality was represented by an adapted Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score derived from seven available components. Descriptive statistics and Pearson or point-biserial correlations were used, with significance set at p<0.05. The mean age was 41.2±11.7 years, and 56.4% were male. The mean adapted total score was 9.80±2.07, with a median of 10 and a range of 5–18. Using the adapted scoring procedure and conventional cut-off, 162 respondents (98.2%) were provisionally classified as having poor sleep quality. Questionnaire-defined obesity was the only significant factor (r=-0.256; p=0.001), but classified respondents had a lower mean score than those not classified (8.76 versus 10.07). This unexpected direction requires verification of the variable definition and coding. Because the score was adapted and the analysis was cross-sectional and bivariable, prevalence, causality, and an independent dominant factor could not be established.
