PENGUATAN KAPASITAS CAREGIVER INFORMAL LANSIA DALAM PENGEMBANGAN KAIGO CENTER BERBASIS MASYARAKAT

The increasing number of elderly in the community presents various challenges in meeting long-term care needs, especially in communities with limited resources for elderly caregivers. Jenggik Village, Terara District, East Lombok Regency, has 108 elderly with various health problems, such as decreased independence, chronic diseases, risk of falls, cognitive impairment, and limited access to social support and health services. Meanwhile, the number of available elderly cadres is still limited, so community empowerment efforts are needed through strengthening the capacity of informal caregivers by involving all elements of society and stakeholders. This community service activity aims to increase the capacity of informal caregivers in assisting the elderly while supporting the development of the Kaigo Center as a community-based community empowerment center. The method used was community-based training and mentoring involving 20 people: the Head of the Neighborhood, the Village Head, representatives of the Provincial Health Office, elderly people as practice partners, and cadres as informal caregivers. The activity was carried out through educational lectures, skills demonstrations, direct practice of using the initial assessment of the elderly, and focus group discussions. The activity instruments included training materials, presentation media, initial assessment formats, and activity documentation. The results of the activity showed that participants actively participated in the entire program series and gained increased understanding. The program also increased participants' awareness of the well-being of the elderly and strengthened their readiness to act as informal caregivers within their families and communities. The development of the Kaigo Center is an important outcome of the program, serving as a platform for community empowerment supported by a culture of mutual cooperation, the involvement of community leaders, and cross-sectoral support. Plans for the program's sustainability include establishing elderly support groups at the village level, strengthening collaboration with village health services and community health centers, developing more adequate training facilities, using more systematic documentation tools, and developing an assessment format to support sustainable community-based elderly services.
