Abstract
Taman Ayu Village in West Lombok Regency is a stunting locus that has shown a significant decline since 2022. Data from the Gerung Community Health Center recorded 105 stunted children in 2022 (19.9%), decreased to 88 children in 2023, and 57 children in July 2023, with an achievement of more than 50%. In 2022, there were also 142 pregnant women and 110 births, indicating a high risk of stunting. Education on newborn care is a crucial strategy in preventing stunting, as the first 1,000 days of life significantly influence a child's growth and development. This activity is integrated into the Pregnant Women's Class, which covers topics such as pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, newborn care, and disease prevention. The role of community health workers is crucial through home visits, health promotion, counseling, and detection of danger signs. Repeated education has proven effective in increasing mothers' understanding, shaping positive behavior, and preventing complications. The synergy of education, prenatal classes, and community health workers is key to accelerating the reduction of stunting in Taman Ayu Village. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide information and knowledge to the Posyandu community health workers group, both theoretically and practically, regarding newborn care, which consists of bathing newborns, umbilical cord care, breastfeeding, keeping babies warm, and danger signs in newborns, in the form of training in educational classes. A total of 20 community health worker representatives from each hamlet were targeted for this community service activity. The implementation included socialization of the objectives, participant approval, pre-test, newborn care education, post-test, and practice with student assistance. Evaluations were conducted twice: on pregnant women in their third trimester and during the first neonatal visit with the village midwife. The results of the community service activity showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of community health workers, with their average knowledge score rising from 66 to 90.25.
